Description

Chinon straight kurta with Aari floral bouquets on the sleeves and a contrast-faced neckline edged in Kardana, paired with a semi organza dupatta in a contrasting shade. The embroidery swaps colours between the two pieces.

Jewellery: Gold or kundan jhumkas pick up the Kardana at the neckline in every colourway. Skip a necklace, since the faced neckline is already the focal point.
Dupatta drape: Wear it over one shoulder, as shown, so the scalloped edge and hem drops fall the full length. Drape it over both shoulders for a more formal look.
Occasion: Choose the deeper pairs (mauve, maroon, navy, bottle green) for evening functions and the lighter ones (beige, aqua, lime) for daytime.

About the Craft

Aari embroidery is worked with a fine hooked needle that pulls the thread through the fabric in a chain stitch, which lets it fill large areas with dense, flowing lines. Kardana is embellishment work in which small beads, sequins or stones are stitched onto the fabric to pick out the lines of the design.

Aari technique builds dense floral bouquet clusters with leaf sprays across the sleeves, while Kardana mixed-metal thread traces the keyhole neckline trim and runs through the floral centres as fine linear detail.

Each piece is made with custom work, so there may be subtle differences from one piece to the next.
